MIDI GEAR

My setup includes:

* a Roland RAP-10 soundcard,
* a Turtle Beach Maui soundcard,
* a SB-16 (for tradition's sake...long live OPL-3 !) ;-)

As master keyboard, I use my old Yamaha DX-7, which I bought when it first came on the market....that seems like a hundred years ago. ;-)

The sound cards are crunched into my mini-tower, which also contains an ASUS SP3 PCI motherboard, with a new AMD 586/133 processor and 32 MB RAM. In addition to the FDD, CD-ROM drive, ZIP drive and streamer, there are also two 520 MB HDDs in there, both of which are just about jammed full. Now there's no more place for anything else...and no more IRQ's either ! Thank goodness I have an external modem !

I'm now running everything, including the RAP-10 under WIN 95 ! As you other RAP-10 owners well know, there were no drivers for it included in WIN 95. Thanks to Jeff Glatt's instructions about how to run the RAP-10 under WIN 95 the RAP-10 works just fine under WIN 95 now !

BTW, if you're looking for info about MIDI, be sure to drop by Jeff Glatt's WWW site,
The MIDI Technical Fanatic's Brainwashing Center. Jeff is a genius, with a great sense of humor as well...an unbeatable combination. We can consider ourselves lucky that he's so willing to share his knowledge with all of us ! His site has mostly reference material and tutorials about MIDI and related topics, suitable for everyone, ranging from MIDI newbies, to experienced MIDI musicians and programmers.

YAMAHA

Yamaha is also now on WWW. On the Yamaha WWW site,
you'll find a complete list of all Yamaha products, and a list of Yamaha distributors as well.

DX-7 owners should also check out Dave Benson's DX-7 Page.
For owners of other Yamaha synths, Nigel Spencer's Yamaha Zone offers a wealth of information.

ROLAND

If you're interested in Roland products, you should visit the Roland U.S. WWW site.
If you're a RAP-10 owner, you can also download the newest drivers for the RAP-10 from there.

The WWW site offers complete information about all current Roland products. While you're there, you can browse through the store which offers a few items of Roland-memorabilia, including posters, and a Roland jacket that I'd just love to have if it didn't cost so much ! ;-)

TURTLE BEACH

On the Turtle Beach Systems WWW site you'll find information about all TB products.

Owners of Turtle Beach soundcards may also be interested in the Turtle Beach Users Group
home page, maintained by Sean McCreary.

There's also a Listserv for Turtle Beach products. To subscribe, just send a mail to: listserv@lists.colorado.edu with no subject and "SUBSCRIBE MULTISOUND <your full name>" in the body of the message. (...special thanks to Tim Simms for providing the above information !)

MAUI owners should check out Brandon Higa's Maui FTP site .
On this site you'll find driver updates, heaps of info, utilities and even a few samples !

CREATIVE ZONE

CREATIVE Labs has revamped their WWW site, now called the Creative Zone.
In addition to driver updates and info about the Creative product line, they've now expanded their site to include various new sections, such as a Musician's Cafe and a Composer's Corner.

TTS Twelve Tone Systems has changed their company name to Cakewalk Music Software,
so don't be surprised to be seeing CMS instead of TTS.

As sequencer software I use CakeWalk Professional for Windows 3.01.
I think Cakewalk is great, and highly recommend it to any of you who want to sequence MIDI.
The Cakewalk Users Home Page (maintained by Chris Boucher) is also great.
...one of the first places I visited on the WWW.

There you'll also find the Cakewalk General MIDI Project , now co-ordinated by Andrew Brown,
and I'm proud to say that the CW GM Projects 4, 5 and 6 also include some of my work.

If FTP is your bag, you should check out the Cakewalk FTP site.

There's also a Cakewalk Listserv. To subscribe, just send a mail to: listserv@lists.colorado.edu
with no subject and "SUBSCRIBE CAKEWALK <your full name>" in the body of the message.

Of course, the hottest words on all Cakewalkers' lips these days are Cakewalk Pro Audio !
The updated version has been released. If you havn't seen it yet, you can download the
Cakewalk Pro Audio demo , and try it out for yourself.

SOUNDTREK

I ran across a couple of other interesting MIDI sequencing programs from the company Soundtrek, that make use of styles and chords. I haven't used them myself, but they're very well made, and for those of you who prefer not to work with music notation, they could well be the perfect solution !

Check out the JAMMER Professional demo (1409k) and the JAMMER SongMaker demo (1410k),
and be sure to look closely, because there's a lot more to them than first meets the eye !

There's also a Band style library for the JAMMER (348k) available. They have some great demo files, in .mid format as well, created with the JAMMER, for your listening pleasure. The folks at Soundtrek are also generous enough to provide many links to other interesting music-related WWW sites.
